Homeowners in Pursuit of High-quality Furniture and Decor are increasingly Turning to Custom-made pieces

Compared to the same period last year, searches for handmade tile products on the online marketplace Etsy have climbed by 95%, with searches for handmade tile tables rising by 4,000%.

It became difficult to locate a dining table that would fit into Theresa Dowd’s oddly shaped room when she renovated her Ambler home in 2022. She knew she wanted a 14-foot-by-38-inch white wood farmhouse-style table as the focal point of her house, but she could not find one ready-made.

“I wanted a table that had a little bit of casual elegance, charm, and character, with a French country feel to it,” she stated.

She also specified legs with subtle details, a fluted apron that curved down the long edges of the table, and a continuous top without any breaks or leaves.

After sharing her concept with Philadelphia Table Co., she received her dream table—worth approximately $7,900—in less than three months.

Furniture, tile, kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, window treatments, and murals are examples of custom handmade components, sometimes known as bespoke features, that are making an appearance in house design. Owners of unique, high-quality pieces value having them in their homes.

“A lot of homeowners on Houzz are asking for more traditional elements and materials that can be a sustainable option when renovating and that create a timeless look,” according to Mitchell Parker. “They engender a sense that the homeowner possesses something genuinely exceptional and singular.”

Compared to the same period last year, searches for handmade tile items on the online marketplace Etsy have climbed 95% over the past six months, with searches for handmade tile tables up by 4,000%.
